How to find the best recycling options

Do You Need to Dispose of Scrap Metal?

Does your business generate plenty of scrap metal? Maybe you run a manufacturing business that produces lots of metal offcuts. Perhaps you manage a house clearance business and need a way to dispose of the metal items you can't sell. Alternatively, you might be a private individual with an old car at home that you can't sell or a stack of old home radiators littering the backyard that you want to be removed. Finding a safe way to dispose of scrap metal is essential. No one wants to see metal contaminating the environment in a landfill site when there is a much better alternative.

Recycling scrap metal

The majority of scrap metal doesn't need to be thrown away as useless. Instead, the scrap metal can be recycled. Why pay for someone to collect your scrap when a scrap metal company will pay you to take away what you no longer need? The scrap metal merchant will take what you no longer want and ensure that it is recycled to become something useful once again. Steel, aluminium and other metals are 100% recyclable, and you should have no difficulty finding someone who will be happy to take them away.

Choosing a scrap metal company

Selecting the right scrap metal company means finding a company that suits your circumstances. There are two criteria you should consider.

Scheduling

You may be looking for a one-off collection, or you could need regular collections to remove all the waste generated by your business. If you are prepared to load your vehicle and make a delivery to the scrap metal company, that could be the best solution, but if you need scrap collected regularly, you must look for a company that will collect the scrap from your site. Most scrap metal companies will leave bins on your premises for you to fill up. Sometimes, you must call the company when the bins are becoming full. At other times, you could establish a regular collection schedule with the scrap metal collection company. If you do set up a collection schedule, check that the company are happy to vary the schedule as your business demands vary. You don't want to be stuck with a lot of scrap metal waiting for collection if the company takes on a big job and production increases for a while.

Collected materials

Before committing to a scrap metal company, check that they will take all the scrap metal from your site. Scrap metal could be steel, aluminium or something else. It might be sheet metal offcuts, drink cans or old property fixtures. Check what they will accept before signing a contract.
